Middleton Police Warn of Magazine Selling Scam
Posted on Aug 31st, 2011

The Middleton Police Department is warning residents about an apparent door-to-door scam. Police said they received several reports of people tyring to sell magazines at Middleton homes, telling residents they are raising money for an American Legion baseball team and/or for overseas troops. The alleged scam artists provide a receipt from Absolute Marketing in Georgia with a phone number of 770.831.7722, according to police.

If you are contacted by a door-to-door sales person, you will want to verify that they have a city of Middleton sellers permit. If they do not, the police recommend not to do business with them. The police urge people to get a description of any suspicious people and their vehicles and to immediately call the department at 608.824.7300.

The BBB in Georgia has had hundreds of complaints of scams affiliated with Absolute Marketing and the 770 phone number listed above, according to the police.
